Permanent birth control includes surgical procedures such as vasectomy and tubal ligation. Tubal ligation blocks or ties the fallopian tubes so that an egg cannot be fertilized or transported to the uterus. A vasectomy is a surgical procedure that blocks the vas deferens, the vas deferens, to prevent sperm from entering the ejaculate and potentially meeting the egg.

Hormonal implants are placed under the skin by a healthcare provider to prevent pregnancy for up to three years. They release pure progestin hormones to stop ovulation.
