About Laparoscopic Surgery
Laparoscopic is also called โminimally invasiveโ surgery. It is a specialized surgery technique where a specialist instead of doing a traditional โopenโ surgery uses a single incision (hole) for entering inside the abdomen. The size of the hole depends on the organ to be operated on and can vary between few inches to 10 inches. Generally in laparoscopic surgery, the incisions vary from 0.5-1cm. The incision is known as a โport.โย In this port, a tubular instrument called trochar is inserted.ย At the tip of this trochar, a special camera called a laparoscope is fitted during the surgery. The laparoscope shows the images of the abdominal cavity in a high-resolution video monitor. During the surgery procedure, the surgeon watches the detailed live images of the abdomen and performs the operation.
